Terms of Service

Last updated 19 July 2026

By downloading or using Bandwise, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree with them, do not use the app.

The one that matters most. Bandwise gives you an estimate of your speaking level against the published IELTS criteria. It is not the IELTS test, it is not affiliated with the organisations that run it, and no band it shows you is a prediction or guarantee of your official result.

1. What Bandwise is

Bandwise is an independent practice app for the IELTS speaking test. It presents practice questions in the published Part 1 and Part 2 formats, transcribes your spoken answer, and returns an estimated band on each of the four published assessment criteria along with written reasoning.

2. No affiliation with IELTS

IELTS is a registered trademark of the British Council, IDP Education Australia, and Cambridge Assessment English. Bandwise is not affiliated with, endorsed by, authorised by, or connected to any of them. References to the test and its criteria are descriptive, referring to publicly published information about the exam.

3. No guarantee of results

Scores produced by Bandwise are generated by automated systems and are estimates. They can be wrong. They are not produced by a certified examiner, they are not an official assessment, and they do not predict the band you will receive on a real test. Your official result depends on your performance on the day and on the judgement of the examiner assessing you.

You are responsible for decisions you make about your exam preparation. We are not liable for outcomes based on scores or feedback the app provides.

4. Your account

You need an account to save your progress across devices. You are responsible for keeping access to the Apple or Google account you sign in with. You must be old enough to enter a contract where you live, and at least 13 years old.

5. Subscriptions and payment

Bandwise offers optional paid subscriptions that give access to additional features. All purchases are processed by Apple through the App Store — we never see or handle your payment details.

Prices may change. If they do, the change applies to renewals after you have been notified, and you can cancel before it takes effect.

6. Acceptable use

You agree not to:

7. Your content

Your recordings and transcripts remain yours. You grant us only the permission needed to operate the app: to store your data, and to send your answer transcripts to our scoring provider so a score can be returned to you. How that works is set out in the privacy policy.

8. Availability

We may change, suspend, or discontinue any part of the app. Scoring depends on third-party services and an internet connection, and may be unavailable at times. We do not promise uninterrupted service.

9. Termination

You can stop using Bandwise at any time and delete your account from Settings. We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these terms. Sections that by their nature should survive termination — disclaimers, limitation of liability — do.

10. Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The app is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind to the fullest extent permitted by law. To the extent permitted by law, our total liability arising from your use of the app is limited to the amount you paid for it in the twelve months before the claim.

Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, and if you are a consumer you keep any statutory rights your local law gives you.

11. Changes to these terms

We may update these terms. The date at the top will change, and continuing to use the app after an update means you accept the revised terms.
